Token Mapping Error

Learn how to identify if a token has been incorrectly mapped to the wrong asset and how to fix it

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Mapping errors are rare, but when they occur, they can result in incorrect market prices and, consequently, inaccurate portfolio values or capital gains.

How token identification works

When you import your transactions, CryptoBooks automatically identifies the tokens and assigns the market price based on their ticker, metadata, and automated matching criteria.

In most cases, the system correctly assigns the right token and accurately calculates portfolio values and capital gains.

When a mapping error can occur

If a token has a very common ticker that’s used by multiple projects, the imported transaction may be linked to a similar but different asset. This can result in the assignment of an incorrect market price, leading to distorted portfolio values or inaccurate reports.

How to recognize an incorrectly mapped token

The most common signs include:

  • the token symbol is different from what you expected

  • the token name doesn’t match the correct one

  • the total portfolio value in CryptoBooks doesn’t match your actual holdings

  • some transactions show unusually high or low values

  • capital gains appear exaggerated or inconsistent

What to do first

Before contacting support, we recommend:

  • checking that the token ticker, name and contract match the correct project

  • verifying on which connection/blockchain the issue occurs (exchange or wallet)

  • noting the date and time of the affected transactions and, if possible, providing the blockchain explorer link showing the token contract

How to fix it with CryptoBooks Support

If you suspect a mapping error, report the issue to our team. We’ll manually verify the match and remap the token in our database if needed.

Once corrected, the system will automatically recalculate prices, values, and capital gains.

To solve this issue contact Support via the in-app chat or by email at customer.support@cryptobooks.tax

To speed up the process, please include:

  • the correct token ticker, name and contract you expected to see

  • the current incorrect token name or symbol displayed

  • transaction IDs or details (including date and time)

  • the affected exchange or wallet connection

  • any relevant screenshots or blockchain explorer links

Temporary effects
Until the issue is fixed, your portfolio value and capital gains may appear incorrect. We recommend waiting to generate final tax reports until the mapping has been resolved.
