Alert "Connection error"

Learn what connection error means, why it apppears and how to solve it

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The connection error alert appears in the Alert page of CryptoBooks when one or more of your connections contain inconsistent or incomplete data. This alert signals that something is wrong with the imported transactions, which may prevent accurate balance calculations and affect your tax data.

It’s a safety and transparency feature: the system lets you know that one or more issues exist in a connection and prompts you to resolve them with a single click.

⚠️ Errors on connections disable capital gain calculation

When errors are present on your connection, an alert will appear in the Alert Center. Capital gain calculations will be temporarily disabled, as some of the required data needed to perform them correctly is missing.

What “connection error” means

A connection error indicates that the transactions imported in a connection have issues or inconsistencies.

There are 3 types of errors that can trigger this alert are:

  • missing prices: one or more transactions do not have an available price value for the relevant period

  • negative balances: the balance of a wallet or account drops below zero at one or more points in its history

  • differences: the total of transactions does not match the balance reported by the connected platform’s API

You can then click Fix to open a guided resolution flow that walks you through the correction process step by step. Each section provides specific instructions and tools to help you fix the connection completely.

Each error requires a specific fix, described in detail in the dedicated articles: missing prices, negative balances, and differences.

Why are there errors in my connection?

Unfortunately, these issues usually depend on the data provided by the connected exchange, wallet, or API, rather than on CryptoBooks itself.
When a provider sends incomplete, inconsistent, or outdated information, connection errors can occur for example:

  • missing or incorrect prices in transaction data

  • balances not properly updated by the exchange or API

  • CSV files exported with missing fields or wrong formats

These inconsistencies prevent CryptoBooks from validating your data and calculating accurate results.

ℹ️ Connection error alert is visible only to users who have not activated AI

If you prefer not to receive this type of alert and want your accounting to run smoothly and automatically, you can follow this guide to enable CryptoBooks AI as your resolution method.
Once activated, AI will automatically detect and fix connection errors using fiscal-safe logic, and you will no longer receive connection alerts in your account.
