Fiscal Performance or Trading Performance?
In order to properly understand the data displayed in this section of the portfolio, it's necessary to explain the difference between fiscal performance and trading performance.
Fiscal Performance
The purpose of this tool is to measure profit or loss for tax reporting purposes, according to local tax laws.
It focuses on taxable gains or losses, which may differ from actual trading results due to rules like FIFO/LIFO, cost basis adjustments, or allowable deductions.
As shown in the image above, from a tax performance perspective, the user in this example generated a capital gain of €8,366.54 for the fiscal year 2024. This is the result of a total purchase cost of €107,355.90 and total proceeds from sales of €115,718.76. Please note that fees paid (€16,429.98) are not considered a deductible cost for individual taxpayers.
Trading Performance
The purpose of this tool is to measure how well your investments or trades are performing in terms of profit and loss. It focuses purely on market results, ignoring tax implications.
The same user, for the same reference period in the 2024 tax year, instead generated a trading performance gain of €10,457.67, based on total purchase costs of €104,909.52 and total proceeds from sales of €115,732.47.
